AudioGames
AudioGames is one of the eight selected projects for the Playlab: laboratory of experimentation with videogames workshop, organized by MediaLab-Prado in collaboration with Arsgames and with the support of PlayStation and runned during January 21 – 24 and February 4 – 7, 2010.
The first prototype we developed at PlayLab consists of an interactive sound space. We generated a 3D world using Blender software, as visualization of a real 3×3 m empty playground where user was free to move. User’s position in the space is detected by home-made software using Open CV library and communicated to the 3D world in real time creating an interaction between virtual and real world. We created a sound program based on vision/sound synaesthesia principles, generating sound for the 3D world in real time depending on the user’s position and movements on the playground. The user, who can be blind, moves around a virtual sound space, while the audience can watch in a screen the interaction of this user in the 3D world (the user has no access to that). We based on Pacman gameplay to set up the basic rule of the game for the user/player.
